Manufacturers have been reluctant to send in their diesel model into the US market for fear that the engine will not be received well. However, recent studies have suggested that diesel engine are hitting the 25% mark. With this study, we could possibly see more manufacturers bringing their diesel models in the US market and the first to do that might be the KIA.
Kia has an extensive lineup of diesel powered cars and those could be coming to the US, but according to the Vice-president of product planning for Kia Motors America, Orth Hendrik does not think this will happen before another 3 to 4 years.
“The problem right now is that there are different emissions standards in Europe and the U.S., which means we would be faced with different after-treatments, and that makes it very expensive. But with EU6 in 2017-18 there would be the same standards in both Europe and the U.S., and that gives us a better chance,” he said.
Kia extensive diesel powered models will definitely attract more attention to the car manufacturer. Kia is also planning to venture into he electric car market later this year with their Soul EV.
Diesel engine is now slowly getting more attention and it is estimated that the number of diesel engine vehicle will double up with models like Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tundra and many more all joining in.
